About Us

The Lorraine J. Smith Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, families, and communities across the U.S., Jamaica, and the Caribbean through mental health awareness, community-based projects, and educational support. Our work is rooted in one belief: everyone deserves the tools to heal, grow, and thrive.

Our Story

Lorraine J. Smith has spent over 30 years in the counseling room, watching what happens when someone finally gets the support they've been going without. That work is what became the Lorraine J. Smith Foundation.

We started because the need didn't stop at the therapy room door. A family with no smoke detector. A student with no way to pay for school. A community grieving without the resources to grieve well. The Foundation exists to meet those needs directly, across the U.S., Jamaica, and the Caribbean, with the same compassion Lorraine has brought to her clinical work for three decades.

We carry forward the legacy of Zephlin Albertha Smith, and everything we do is built on the belief that support shouldn't depend on income, geography, or circumstance. Everyone deserves access to the tools for healing and growth.

What We Stand For

Mental Wellness

Community Safety

Community Safety

Mental health is not a luxury. We provide counseling, education, and resources to destigmatize mental health care for those who need it most — children, families, and individuals in crisis.

Community Safety

Community Safety

Community Safety

Ensuring safety for all. We bring fire safety tools, support, and education to underserved communities in the U.S. and in Jamaica, partnering with local agencies to reach every household. We show up where the need is greatest.

Eductaion Access

Community Safety

Eductaion Access

Every child deserves the chance to succeed. We partner with schools and community programs to remove financial barriers, supporting mental health, arts, and educational opportunities for youth.

Meet Our Founder

Lorriane J. Smith

Lorraine J. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), Certified Family Trauma Professional, Certified Adolescent Trauma Professional, and Autism Specialist. She is also the CEO of Solutions For U, where she supports individuals across the spectrum of developmental and behavioral disabilities — autism, mental health disorders, learning disabilities, and developmental disabilities — with the health, social, and educational resources they need to thrive.

Lorraine's leadership reaches beyond her clinical practice. She serves as the Georgia State Representative for the Jamaica Diaspora Council, Southern U.S.A., is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology in Jamaica, and volunteers with the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, D.C. She is the author of Through The Tears, I Rise, a memoir that shares the story behind her own resilience — and the conviction that no one should have to navigate hard seasons alone.

That conviction is the Foundation's starting point. Every program we run is something Lorraine has seen the need for firsthand.

Our Impact

Our programs reach families across the United States, Jamaica, and the wider Caribbean. From smoke alarm installations with local fire services to scholarship support for students and partnerships with organizations like the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the Red Cross, and JAICC, we go where the need is and build partnerships that make the work sustainable.
